Visit with Edyta and family
Ten years ago, when Allen’s friend Tom was living with Edyta and her family, we became friends with all, and even though that relationship is long over, our friendship remains.
Edyta lives in Boca Raton and manages the international students program at Florida Atlantic University. She’s mom to Sonja, 19, a freshman at Florida State, and Alex, almost 16. Kids are smart, loving, uber-polite. The family is Polish, kids’ dad lives in Poland, they all go back and forth frequently. Edyta’s mom, Renata, who speaks zero English, lives with them part of each year.

For as long as we've known this family, Alex and Allen have especially enjoyed each other's company.
We all met at their favorite Thai restaurant for a great meal, followed by a stroll for ice cream.
Saturday morning Edyta took us to breakfast so she could share some scary health news. It was wonderful and awful to be trusted with it.
And then breakfast with the entire family before farewells.
Took this photo when Sonja was nine.
Lovely that some things don't change.
It was a great catch-up visit, the kids flatter us by telling us they consider us their aunt and uncle, and, language or no, our affection for Renata and vice-versa is real.
